Project Engineering Lead – Electrical
Electrical Project Engineer Lead driving delivery of utility-scale renewable, BESS and HV substation projects.
We're recruiting for an Electrical Project Engineer Lead based in Melbourne for our client. The company is a growing EPC contractor delivering utility-scale renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), high-voltage substations and electrical balance of plant (eBoP) infrastructure projects across Australia.
As part of a significant growth phase, they are seeking a Project Engineer Lead - Electrical to provide engineering leadership across a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This role will play a key part in driving engineering consistency, mentoring and developing Electrical Project Engineers, and supporting the successful delivery of complex BESS, high voltage substation and solar projects from pre-construction through to commissioning. Working closely with construction teams, clients, network service providers and the design function, you'll help establish engineering best practice while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical engineering delivery across multiple utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Mentor, coach and develop a team of site-based Electrical Project Engineers.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, QA/QC procedures and project documentation.
- Provide technical input during tendering, constructability reviews and project planning.
- Oversee electrical works from pre-construction through to commissioning and energisation.
- Review and approve engineering documentation including ITPs, QA packs, RFIs, test plans, cable schedules and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate engineering resources across multiple projects to meet programme and construction requirements.
- Conduct regular site audits to ensure compliance with project specifications, Australian Standards and network requirements.
- Act as the key technical interface between construction teams, designers, subcontractors, OEMs, utilities and clients.
- Manage technical queries, design changes, commissioning interfaces and engineering risk.
- Support value engineering initiatives, variation assessments and commercial claims.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
- Extensive experience delivering electrical engineering within utility-scale renewable energy, power or major infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience delivering BESS, high voltage substation and/or solar projects.
- Previous leadership experience managing or mentoring Project Engineers or site engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, utility requirements and high voltage electrical infrastructure.
- Experience across HV substations, protection and control systems, secondary systems, earthing, lightning protection and electrical balance of plant.
- Experience supporting commissioning, energisation, FAT/SAT activities and QA/QC processes.
- Strong understanding of design management, document control, RFIs and engineering change management.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across clients, utilities, OEMs, construction teams and design engineers.
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites across Australia.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
