Project Engineering Lead – Civil / Structural
Lead civil/structural engineering across utility-scale solar, BESS and HV substation projects for a growing renewable EPC.
We're recruiting for a Civil/Structural Project Engineer Lead based in Melbourne for our client. The company is a growing EPC contractor delivering utility-scale renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), high-voltage substations and electrical balance of plant (eBoP) infrastructure projects across Australia.
As part of a significant growth phase, they are seeking a Project Engineer Lead - Civil/Structural to provide engineering leadership across a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This role will play a key part in driving engineering consistency, mentoring and developing Project Engineers, and supporting the successful delivery of complex solar, BESS and high voltage substation projects from pre-construction through to commissioning. Working closely with construction teams, clients and the design function, you'll help establish engineering best practice while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the civil and structural engineering delivery across multiple renewable energy projects.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to site-based Project Engineers.
- Develop and implement engineering standards, QA/QC processes and project execution procedures.
- Support tender activities by providing construction and engineering expertise during bid development.
- Oversee engineering delivery from pre-construction through to commissioning and project completion.
- Review and approve technical documentation including ITPs, RFIs, NCRs, quality reports and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate engineering resources across multiple project sites to meet project priorities and schedules.
- Conduct regular site visits and engineering audits to ensure compliance with project specifications, Australian Standards and company procedures.
- Identify construction risks and develop practical engineering solutions to minimise project impacts.
- Act as the senior engineering interface between construction teams, subcontractors, clients and the office-based design team.
- Drive effective management of design changes, technical queries and engineering documentation.
- Monitor engineering-related cost drivers and support value engineering initiatives.
- Assist commercial teams with technical input relating to variations, claims and progress reporting.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety and engineering excellence across project teams.
Required Experience
- Extensive experience delivering civil and structural engineering within renewable energy, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience working on utility-scale Solar PV, BESS and/or High Voltage Substation projects.
- Previous leadership experience managing or mentoring Project Engineers or site engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, National Construction Code and construction best practice.
- Experience across civil construction including foundations, piling, earthworks, drainage, access roads, cable trenches and substation civil works.
- Strong understanding of QA/QC processes, contractor management and construction documentation.
- Experience managing RFIs, design changes, technical queries and as-built documentation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to work across site, design and client teams.
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites across Australia.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
