Consultant

Permanent / Full Time

Join a boutique energy consultancy translating complex market modelling into insight for high stakes infrastructure decisions across Australia.

Overview:
This is a consulting role within a boutique, technology led advisory firm delivering economic and quantitative analysis across energy and infrastructure sectors. You will frame client problems, shape the underlying analysis, and translate complex modelling into insight that drives real decisions for governments, utilities, developers and investors.

The ideal person is as comfortable in front of a client as they are in the detail of a model. The firm runs a hybrid working model with real autonomy, and has built a strong reputation among major infrastructure players for pairing quantitative rigour with commercial pragmatism.

Responsibilities:
  • Work directly with clients to frame ambiguous problems into clear, well scoped questions
  • Translate complex economic and quantitative modelling outputs into insights and recommendations clients can act on
  • Prepare and deliver polished reports, analysis and presentations to clients and senior stakeholders
  • Identify the decision an analysis needs to support, not just respond to the brief as given
  • Support commercial or market due diligence work as part of broader transaction processes
  • Collaborate with modelling and technical colleagues to refine assumptions and ensure outputs meet client needs
  • Build and maintain client relationships, using networking opportunities to understand emerging needs
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulation and methodologies relevant to the sector

Required Experience:
  • 3+ years professional experience in energy markets, economics, market analysis or a related infrastructure sector
  • Demonstrated market modelling experience, including scenario or reference case style analysis
  • Experience supporting transactions or commercial and market due diligence work is highly regarded
  • Genuinely strong presentation and public speaking skills, with the ability to communicate complex analysis clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Experience framing ambiguous problems into concise scoping documents or research summaries
  • Knowledge of Australian energy markets, power system operations, policy and regulation highly regarded
  • Understanding of core economic principles such as short run and long run marginal cost and supply-demand dynamics
  • Working knowledge of Python or R is a plus but not essential for this profile

Qualifications:
  • Tertiary degree in economics, applied mathematics, engineering or another highly quantitative discipline
  • Postgraduate qualification in economics or a related quantitative field highly regarded but not required
