Substation Designer

We are recruiting a Substation Designer based in Sydney for our client, who operate in the transmission and distribution industry.

Working alongside the primary and secondary engineering teams, this role suits someone with hands-on HV substation design experience who can turn engineering inputs into detailed, accurate drawings and models using industry-standard CAD software. You'll work on a variety of high voltage projects across NSW, collaborate closely with experienced engineers, and help deliver designs from concept through to construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare primary design packages, including general arrangements, plant layouts, single line diagrams, sections and elevations

• Develop secondary design documentation, including protection, control, SCADA and AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams and cable schedules

• Produce earthing, lightning protection and cable route designs in line with Australian Standards and network requirements

• Interpret engineering calculations, specifications and vendor drawings and turn them into accurate design deliverables

• Make sure designs comply with AS 2067, AS/NZS 3000 and the standards of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Transgrid

• Coordinate with civil, structural and electrical disciplines to resolve interface and clash issues

• Take part in design reviews, constructability workshops and site inspections

• Manage drawing registers, revisions and document control through the project lifecycle

• Prepare bills of materials and support procurement and construction teams with technical queries

Experience

• Substation design experience in the Australian power or utilities sector

• Proven delivery of HV/EHV primary and/or secondary designs for zone, bulk supply or transmission substations

• Advanced skills in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (3D modelling tools such as Revit, Navisworks or SDC a plus)

• Exposure to renewable energy connections, BESS or switching stations is highly regarded

• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines

Qualifications

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Drafting or similar (an Associate Degree also works)
