We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer - Secondary & Protection to support the delivery and commissioning of high-voltage substation projects across New South Wales. This role will play a key part in the testing, commissioning, energisation, and fault-finding of secondary systems and protection schemes across transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.
Working closely with project teams, utilities, commissioning managers, and site personnel, you will be responsible for ensuring protection and control systems are safely commissioned and compliant with client, utility, and industry standards. Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing and commissioning of secondary systems within HV substations and transmission infrastructure projects
- Commission protection relays, SCADA systems, control systems, and associated substation secondary equipment
- Conduct end-to-end testing of protection schemes including transformer, line, busbar, feeder, and differential protection systems
- Prepare and review commissioning documentation including test procedures, switching sheets, commissioning plans, and reports
- Carry out fault-finding, troubleshooting, and rectification of protection and control systems
- Support energisation activities and ensure compliance with utility and project commissioning requirements
- Coordinate with construction, electrical, and commissioning teams to ensure safe and efficient project delivery
- Liaise with utilities, clients, OEMs, and subcontractors throughout commissioning and handover phases
- Ensure all works are completed in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and network procedures
- Participate in FATs, SATs, functional testing, and witness testing activities
- Demonstrated experience in secondary systems and protection commissioning within HV substations or transmission infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of protection schemes, relay testing, and substation control systems
- Experience working across transmission and distribution projects within utility, EPC, or contractor environments
- Hands-on experience with commissioning and testing equipment such as Omicron or similar relay testing platforms
- Knowledge of HV switching, isolation procedures, and energisation processes
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, protection drawings, and commissioning documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability across protection and control systems
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills across site and project teams
- Ability to work in site-based project environments and travel as required
- Degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
